Prof. Jer-Fu Lee Scholarship
Article I. Origin and Purpose
Professor Lee Jer-Fu dedicated his entire life to his beloved scientific research, making remarkable contributions and having a profound impact on cerebrovascular pharmacology. In order to give back to Taiwan and pass on his knowledge to future generations, Professor Lee returned to his hometown in Hualien and, based at Tzu Chi University, established a laboratory to guide students and contribute to Taiwan's scientific research. To continue Professor Lee’s passion for Taiwan and his focus on scientific research, his wife, Mrs. Huang Qi-Mei, established the Professor Lee Jer-Fu Scholarship to encourage outstanding students to engage in scientific research.
To facilitate the implementation of the Tzu Chi University Professor Lee Jer-Fu Scholarship, this memorandum of understanding is hereby signed.
Article 2 Award Contents
1. This scholarship aims to encourage outstanding students in the Master's and Doctoral programs of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Tzu Chi University.
Scholarship donations are made once every four years, with an initial donation amount of US$59,000. Donors will write a check to the Tzu Chi Foundation USA and then transfer it to the Tzu Chi University Prof. Chieh-Fu Lee Scholarship Account.
Scholarship period, program and quota:
(a) One Master's Degree student in each academic year will be eligible to apply for admission after the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding.
One doctoral student.
(b) Scholarships: NT$20,000 for the first year of the Master's program.
Scholarships for Master's Degree students in their second year of study amounted to NT$72,000 (USD).
The amount of tuition and fees for the same academic year, such as the first year of a doctoral program (according to the amount announced by the school).
Scholarships for second year PhD students are NT$144,000 (USD).
NT$180,000 for third and fourth year PhD students (subject to passing the qualifying examination).
(c) If the student does not continue his/her studies after approval, the subsidy will be discontinued when the student applies for suspension of studies.
Article 3 Application Requirements and Assessment
A. Students enrolled in the Master of Pharmacology and Toxicology and Doctor of Pharmacy programs at Tzu Chi University (non-employed).
The application period is announced by the office of the Master of Science in Pharmacology and Toxicology and Doctoral Program after the beginning of the semester in September.
Applications will be submitted to the Master of Science in Pharmacology and Toxicology and Doctor of Philosophy offices and will be examined by a panel of examiners. Scholarships will be awarded after the results of the examination are announced.
Students enrolled in the first year of the Master's and Doctoral Programs will be awarded the 2nd place scholarship based on their academic performance.
Students in the second year or above of Master's and Doctoral Programs should submit the following application form: Prof. Chee-Fu Lee Scholarship Application Form.
(Annex I), transcripts of the previous academic year (with rankings) and recommendation letter from supervising professor.
The Review Committee shall consist of three to five members, who shall be unpaid honorary members, with the class teacher of Pharmacology and Toxicology as the convenor, one to three internal members and one external member.
Article 4 Amendment of Memorandum
Amendments to this Memorandum may be made in writing and supplemented by mutual written consent of both parties.
Article 5 Enforcement Results Notification
The M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Pharmacology and Toxicology should regularly notify Ms. B.M. Wong of the results of the implementation, the breakdown of expenditures, and the balance amount by email each year.
Article 6 Supplementary Provisions
This Memorandum is executed in duplicate and shall come into effect upon signature by both parties, with each party executing the original in duplicate.
